Prepare Speaker Installation Locations
- Use a stud finder to locate ceiling joists or wall studs. Ensure there is enough space to accommodate the speaker's dimensions. Plan the speaker placement for optimal sound coverage in the room. Consider factors like seating position and room acoustics.
- Secure the provided template to the mounting surface to outline the cutout area on the ceiling or wall where the speakers will be installed. Ensure that the marked area is level (for wall installations) and centered as needed.
- Put on the safety glasses and dust mask. Carefully cut the marked area using a drywall saw or hole saw. Ensure that the hole is clean and smooth for a proper fit. Be cautious of any electrical wires or plumbing that may be behind the wall or ceiling.
- Choose a location for the controller unit near a power outlet, as it requires external power. Use a horizontal gang box appropriate for your installation, whether it's for new construction (shown) or existing structures.
Wiring the Right Speaker’s Input Terminal
- Strip about a quarter of an inch of insulation from the ends of your speaker wires and twist them as indicated.
- Disconnect the Phoenix speaker input terminal from the right speaker unit.
- Loosen the terminal screws, insert the speaker wires into the appropriate openings, and tighten the terminal screws. Remember to observe proper polarity (positive to positive, negative to negative). Make sure the wires are properly connected, the sheathing is snug against the terminal opening, and that there are no exposed wires that could cause a short circuit.
- Reconnect the Phoenix terminal to the corresponding port on the speaker.
- Run the speaker wire from the speaker to your amplifier or receiver. Use fish tape (if necessary) to guide the wire through walls and ceiling. Make sure to leave enough slack in the wire at the speaker location to make connections easily.
- Now connect the other end of the speaker wires to the appropriate ports on your output device. As before, be sure to observe proper polarity (positive to positive, negative to negative).
Wiring the Right Speaker’s Ground/Controller/Power (g/c/p) Terminal
- Disconnect the Phoenix g/c/p terminal from speaker.
- Strip about a quarter of an inch of insulation from the ends of the speaker’s ground, power and controller (g/c/p) wires.
- Loosen the terminal screws, insert the g/c/p wires into the appropriate openings, and tighten the terminal screws. Make sure the wires are properly connected and the sheathing is snug against the terminal’s openings.
- Reconnect the Phoenix terminal to its port on the speaker.
- Run the g/c/p wires to the left speaker’s install location.
Wiring the Left Speaker’s Input Terminal
- Follow the right speaker input terminal wiring instructions (on the previous page) to wire the left speaker’s Phoenix terminal. Run the left speaker’s wires to the location of the horizontal gang box where the control unit will be installed.
Wiring the Left Speaker’s Ground/Controller/Power (g/c/p) Terminal
- Disconnect the Phoenix g/c/p terminal from the left speaker.
- Strip about a quarter of an inch of insulation from the ends of the left speaker’s ground, power and controller (g/c/p) wires. Splice the left speaker’s g/c/p wires with the right speaker’s g/c/p wires. Loosen the terminal screws, insert the spliced left and right speaker’s g/c/p wires into the appropriate openings, and tighten the terminal screws. Make sure the wires are properly connected and the sheathing is snug against the terminal’s openings.
- Reconnect the Phoenix terminal to its port on the speaker.
- Run the g/c/p wires to the location of the horizontal gang box where the control unit will be installed.
Installing the Speakers
- Attach included metal clips to the unit in the following manner: on either of the speaker's long sides, locate the clip mounting tabs (inset). Carefully squeeze the spring part of the clip and set between the tabs so that they will slide into either side of the spring's openings once you’ve released it.
- Tuck the speaker and g/c/p wires into the opening. Insert the speaker into the opening, ensuring that all of the mounting clips remain flat against the speaker body (see inset).
- Once the speaker is positioned in the opening, verify that all of the clips are correctly aligned (see inset).
- Gently press one side of the speaker into the opening until you hear the clips click into place. Carefully move your hands down to the opposite side. After making sure the clips are correctly aligned, gently press the other side of the speaker until you hear the clips click into place. Gradually remove your hands, ensuring the speaker is firmly seated before fully letting go.
- Once you’ve installed the wall controller and connected the DC power supply, test the motorized function to ensure the speakers extend and retract fully without any obstructions.
Wiring the Control Unit’s Speaker Output Terminal
- 1. Connect speaker wires to the left speaker outputs of your output device. Run the wires to the control unit’s horizontal gang box location and splice them with the left speaker’s speaker wires.
- Disconnect the Phoenix speaker input terminal from the controller.
- Loosen the terminal screws, insert the spliced speaker wires into the appropriate openings, and tighten the terminal screws. Be sure to observe proper polarity (positive to positive, negative to negative). Make sure the wires are properly connected, the sheathing is snug against the terminal opening, and that there are no exposed wires that could cause a short circuit.
- Reconnect the Phoenix terminal to the controller.
Wiring the Control Unit’s Ground/Controller/Power Terminal
- Disconnect the Phoenix ground/controller/power input terminal from the controller.
- Loosen the terminal screws, insert the left speaker’s ground, power, and control wires into the appropriate openings, and tighten the terminal screws. Make sure the wires are properly connected and the sheathing is snug against the terminal opening.
- Reconnect the Phoenix terminal to the corresponding port on the controller unit.
Installing the Wall Controller
- Carefully tuck the cables into the gang box, insert the controller unit, and secure it to the gang box using the included screws.
- Once the control panel is secure, place the vanity cover over it and press down on it until it locks in place.
- Plug the DC power supply to a nearby power outlet.
- Plug the other end of the power supply to the DC power in port on the wall controller. If the unit is operating correctly, the LED indicator on the wall controller labeled “POWER” will light up. Once you’ve confirmed the wall controller is operating properly, make sure to test the speakers’ motorized function to ensure they extend and retract fully without any issue. When the switch is set to OFF, the unit should remain tucked in. When set to ON, the unit will extended and remain in that position until it is set back to OFF, at which time it will retract. When set to AUTO, the unit will extend when a signal is received and retract shortly after the signal stops.
