Introduction
This guide will walk you through setting up your Rockville D4-70 Dual 4-Inch 70V Commercial Wall Mount Speaker. This speaker is designed for 70-volt commercial audio systems, allowing you to connect multiple speakers to a single amplifier at a constant wattage. The D4-70 includes:
- The speaker unit
- Dual wall mount bracket
- Four screws and four anchors
- Allen key
- Metal sleeve and bolt for bracket assembly
- Two screw knobs for attaching the speaker to the bracket
This guide will cover mounting, wiring, and setting up your speaker in a 70V system.
Understanding 70V Systems
A 70V amplifier lets you connect multiple speakers at fixed wattages, meaning you can run over 100 speakers on a single amp as long as the total speaker wattage matches the amp’s output.
For example, if your amplifier provides 100 watts, you can set each speaker to 7.5 watts and connect up to 20 speakers. A multi-zone amplifier allows for more flexibility, enabling separate control of different speaker zones.

Step-by-Step Installation
1. Mounting the Speaker
1.1 Marking the Mounting Location
- Position the base of the bracket on the wall where you want to install the speaker.
- Use a pencil to mark the four screw holes.
- Avoid screwing into studs—instead, place screws into sheetrock so the anchors can properly grip.
1.2 Assembling the Bracket
- Take the base plate and the bracket and line up the stamped sections.
- Remove the nut from the bolt with the metal sleeve, ensuring the washer remains on the bolt.
- Align the metal sleeve inside the base, matching the holes with the bracket.
- Insert the bolt through the stamped bracket and metal sleeve.
- Secure it with the nut on the opposite side, but do not fully tighten yet—final adjustments will be made later.
1.3 Installing the Bracket on the Wall
- Drill holes in the marked spots using a drill bit large enough for the wall anchors.
- Insert the anchors into the drilled holes.
- Line up the bracket base with the wall holes.
- Secure the top two screws first, using a drill gun.
- Lift the bracket slightly, then secure the bottom two screws.
2. Attaching the Speaker to the Bracket
- Adjust the bracket to your preferred height and position.
- Hold the nut in place with pliers or a wrench while using the Allen key to tighten the bolt.
- Line up the speaker’s mounting holes with the bracket’s holes.
- Insert a screw knob through the bottom hole and tighten it.
- Insert the top screw knob and tighten it.
- The speaker can now swivel left and right for better sound coverage.
3. Wiring the Speaker to a 70V Amplifier
3.1 Connecting the Speaker Wire to the Euroblock Terminal
- The D4-70 has a detachable Euroblock terminal for easier wiring.
- Using a flathead screwdriver, loosen the terminal screws.
- Insert the red (positive) wire into a positive terminal.
- Insert the black (negative) wire into a negative terminal.
- Tighten the screws to secure the wires.
- Plug the Euroblock connector back into the speaker.
3.2 Running the Wire to the Amplifier
- For a cleaner install, you can run wires through the wall.
- Connect the positive wire to the 70V terminal of the amplifier.
- Connect the negative wire to the common (COM) terminal.
- If using zones, connect the wires to the appropriate zone terminals.
4. Setting the Speaker Wattage (Tapping)
The D4-70 allows wattage tapping for customized power distribution.
- Decide how much power you want to allocate per speaker.
- Use a flathead screwdriver to set the tap switch:
- Example: If running 10 speakers at 50 watts total, set each speaker to 3.8 watts.
- Options include 70V and 100V settings, as well as an 8-ohm tap for standard home receivers.
5. Connecting Multiple Speakers (Parallel Wiring / Daisy Chaining)
The Euroblock connector makes daisy chaining easy:
- Run a second speaker wire from the first speaker’s Euroblock terminal.
- Connect it to the positive and negative terminals of the next speaker.
- Continue this until all speakers are connected.
- Connect the final speaker to the amplifier zone terminals.
Remember: Each speaker must be tapped properly to avoid overloading the amplifier.
6. Testing the Setup
Now that everything is connected:
- Turn on your 70V amplifier.
- Play audio through the system.
- Adjust volume and ensure each speaker is functioning correctly.
For this demo, we tapped the speaker at 30 watts, allowing us to hear its full power in action.
Conclusion
Setting up the Rockville D4-70 Dual 4-Inch 70V Commercial Wall Mount Speaker is simple and provides high-quality sound for commercial installations. Whether using a single speaker or multiple in a daisy-chained setup, this guide ensures a smooth and professional installation.
