Introduction
In this guide, we'll walk you through how to create a multi-room audio setup using the RockZone 8 audio receiver. Whether you're setting up speakers in different rooms or zones, the RockZone 8 allows for flexible speaker configurations and fine-tuned control over each zone.
1. Understanding the Speaker Configuration Options
Before connecting your speakers, it's important to understand the different speaker configurations you can use with the RockZone 8:
- 4-Ohm Speakers: Ideal for each left and right channel in your zones.
- 8-Ohm Speakers: You can connect two 8-ohm speakers per channel (left and right) for each zone, which creates a 4-ohm load.
- 16-Ohm Speakers: You can connect four 16-ohm speakers per channel for the same 4-ohm load using parallel wiring.
Be sure not to use 2-ohm speakers, as they may damage the receiver or speakers. If you need help with parallel wiring, we have a tutorial video available.
2. Connecting Speakers to the RockZone 8
Step 1: Unscrewing the Terminals
Start by choosing the zone you want to set up (e.g., Zone 1). On the back of the RockZone 8, locate the speaker terminals for the left and right channels for the selected zone.
- Loosen the positive and negative terminals for both the left and right channels for the zone you are setting up.
Step 2: Wiring the Speakers
- Left Channel:
- Connect the red positive wire to the positive terminal and the black negative wire to the negative terminal for the left channel.
- Tighten the terminals to secure the wires.
- Connect the other ends of the wires to the left speaker by matching the positive and negative terminals.
- Right Channel:
- Repeat the same process for the right channel: connect the red positive wire to the positive terminal and the black negative wire to the negative terminal.
- Secure the wires by tightening the terminals.
- Connect the other ends of the wires to the right speaker.
Step 3: Repeat for Additional Zones
You can set up speakers in other zones (Zone 2, Zone 3, etc.) using the same steps.
- Simply go to the respective zone on the receiver and connect the speaker wires as you did for Zone 1.
3. Configuring Stereo and Mono Modes
Each zone has a stereo and mono switch:
- Stereo Mode (button unpressed): Maintains left and right channel separation.
- Mono Mode (button pressed): Combines the left and right channels into a single mono channel for both speakers.
Select the mode that fits your setup based on how you want the sound to be distributed.
4. Adjusting Volume
Once your speakers are connected:
- Use the left and right volume knobs for each zone to adjust the individual speaker volumes.
- Don't forget to adjust the main volume knob to control the overall sound output of the receiver.
5. Testing the Setup
Now it's time to test your multi-room setup. Play some music and check how each zone sounds:
- Zone 1: You'll hear the sound from Zone 1 speakers.
- Zone 2: Adjust the volume and balance between zones as desired.
- You can lower or raise the volume for each zone separately, allowing you to control sound levels in different rooms or areas.
6. Conclusion
Setting up a multi-room system with the RockZone 8 is easy and provides you with control over each zone's sound. Whether you're in the living room, kitchen, or another room, you can independently adjust volumes, switch between stereo and mono modes, and ensure the sound fills each space as needed.
