MINI IR4: How To Set Up Master/Slave Mode

Introduction

If you want to control multiple Mini IR4 lights without a DMX controller, you can use Master/Slave mode. This function allows one "Master" light to control all "Slave" lights in sync, making it easier to manage lighting effects for performances, DJ events or stage setups. Requirements:
✅Rockville Mini IR4 (at least 2 units required, 25 units max.)
✅*Included IR Remote (optional)

*For simultaneous remote control of the Master and Slave light(s).

Master/Slave Setup

A.) Select & Assign the Master Light

• Select the light you want to be the Master.
  • This light will control all slave lights in the system.
  • It is recommended to use the light that will be easiest to control; either by accessing the buttons / display, or using the IR remote (pointed at the top of the light). 
• Activate the light's Master Mode setting:
  • Press the MODE button until you see MASTER on or MASTER oFF.
    
  • If you see MASTER oFF, use the Up or Down button to select MASTER on.
    
• Select a Wireless Group ID.
  1. Press the Mode button until you see 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06, 07 or oFF with the corresponding Wireless Group ID color. 
     
  2. Use the Up / Down buttons to select one of the 7 available ID codes.
     • Example: 04 → Blue 
        
• Make sure IR Remote response is Active (to use remote control):
  1. Press the MODE button until you see IR on or IR oFF.
     
  2. If you see IR oFF, use the Up or Down button select IR on.
     
     • This allows you to control all lights using a remote pointed at the Master light (IR sensor on top near display).

B.) Configuring the Slave Lights

• Deactivate the light's Master Mode setting:
  1. Press the MODE button until you see MASTER on or MASTER oFF.
     
  2. If you see MASTER on, use the Up or Down button select MASTER oFF.
     
• Select matching Wireless Group ID:
  1. Press the Mode button until you see 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06, 07 or oFF with the corresponding Wireless Group ID color. 
     
  2. Use the Up / Down buttons to select one of the 7 available ID codes.
     • Example: 04 → Blue 
        
• (If using IR remote) Make sure IR Remote response is not Active:
  This avoids interference or desynchronization if you accidentally point the remote at a Slave Light.
  1. Press the MODE button until you see IR on or IR oFF.
     
  2. If you see IR on, use the Up or Down button select IR oFF.
     

C.) Controlling the Lights

• Once configured...
  • Set the Master to any static color, color-changing or sound-active mode. All Slave lights should respond. 
  • The Master Light’s Wireless Group ID Icon will stay solid.
  • The Slave Lights’ Wireless Group ID Icon will flash, indicating they are synced with the Master Light.
    
• Controlling the Lights now that they are synced...
  • Any changes made on the Master Light will be mirrored on all Slave Lights.
  • You can adjust colors, modes, brightness and effects using the Master Light’s buttons or the included remote.
• Using the Remote...
  • The remote offers convenient handheld control with the same functions as the onboard buttons.
  • You can easily change colors, switch auto modes, adjust brightness, and activate effects.
  • Make sure IR response is only active on your Master light (as shown above) to ensure Slave lights don't get accidentally thrown out of sync.

1	Brightness	Adjust brightness in any mode.
2	BLACKOUT	Turns LEDs off completely. Please note: This does not power down the light.
3	ON	Turns LEDS back on after Blackout, and returns them to previous function.
4	WIRELESS GROUP	Select 1 of 7 Wireless Group ID options using the ⇧ / ⇩ buttons.
5	APP GROUP	Select 1 of 4 App Groups options using the ⇧ / ⇩ buttons.
6a	Sound Modes	1 → Color Cycle
		2 → Color Pulse
		3 → Color Strobe
		4 → Color Cycle + Pulse + Strobe
6b	Sound SENSitivity	Increase/Decrease response to sound.
7a	SLAVE / DMX	Switch between setting the DMX Address and Channel Mode.
7b	SLAVE / DMX ⇧ ⇩	Set DMX Address (001~512) or DMX Channel Mode (6 or 10).
8a	AUTO MODE:  Cycle between →	JUMP Mode: Automatic cycling between colors.
		FADE 01 Mode: Continuous smooth transitions between colors.

8b	MODE SPEED ⇧ ⇩	Controls speed for all modes above.
9a	STROBE	Create strobe strobe effect with any color selected.

Troubleshooting & FAQs

My Slave lights are not responding.
✅Check that all lights are set to the same Wireless Group ID.
✅Ensure Master Mode is ON for only the Master light.
✅Confirm Slave Mode is ON for all other lights.
✅Turn OFF IR Mode on all Slave Lights to avoid interference / desynchronization when using remote.

How many Slave lights can I control with one Master?
✅Up to 25 Slave lights can be wirelessly linked to a single Master.

Can I sync my other Rockville lights with my Mini IR4s in Master/Slave Mode?
✅Normally Master/Slave Mode only works with lights of the same exact model, however... 
✅The Rockville Mini RF-series can be linked with the Mini IR4 because they have the same DMX response.
✅No lights of other models or brands can be linked using Master/Slave. 
✅You may want to consider using a DMX controller to sync any lights with DMX capabilities.
