BD20: How To Set Up DMX

Introduction

Using a DMX controller with your Rockville BD20 lights allows you to take full control over color, strobe, motor movement, and preset modes. This guide will walk you through both wireless and wired DMX setups, so you can easily integrate your BD20 lights into your lighting system.

Option 1: Wireless DMX Setup

The Rockville BD20 lights come with a built-in wireless DMX feature, eliminating the need for DMX cables. Follow these steps to link them to a wireless DMX controller.

Step 1: Check for Wireless DMX Compatibility

• Look at the back of your DMX controller.
• If you see a wireless DMX switch, button, and indicator light, your controller supports wireless DMX.

Step 2: Turn on Wireless DMX on Your Controller and Lights

1. Power on your controller and activate wireless DMX by flipping the switch.
2. Power on your BD20 lights and turn on wireless DMX (switch in the top left corner).
3. The wireless DMX indicator lights will turn on.

Step 3: Match the Wireless DMX Signals

• The wireless DMX signals are color-coded:
  • Red, Green, Yellow, Blue, Pink, Cyan, White
• To link your lights and controller:

1. Select a color on the controller (e.g., Blue).
2. Press the wireless DMX signal button on each BD20 light until it matches the controller.
3. Once linked, the controller’s signal light will turn red, and the lights will turn green—indicating a successful connection.

Step 4: Set the DMX Address

1. Press the Menu button on the BD20 lights until you reach DMX mode (D00 setting).
2. Use the Up/Down buttons to set all lights to DMX address D001.
3. Activate Scanner 1 on your controller.

Step 5: Control Your Lights Using DMX Faders

Once the lights are connected, you can use the faders on your DMX controller:

• Fader 1: Master dimmer (0-255 brightness control)
• Fader 2: Strobe effect
• Fader 3-6: Color control (Red, Green, Blue, White)
• Fader 7: Motor movement
• Fader 8: Preset lighting modes
• Fader 9: Speed control for preset modes

Option 2: Wired DMX Setup

If your controller does not support wireless DMX, you can connect your BD20 lights using DMX cables.

Step 1: Connect Your DMX Controller to the First Light

1. Take a DMX cable and plug the male end into the DMX Out port on your controller.
2. Plug the other end into the DMX In port on your first BD20 light.

Step 2: Daisy Chain Additional Lights

1. Take another DMX cable and plug the male end into the DMX Out of the first BD20 light.
2. Plug the other end into the DMX In of the next BD20 light.
3. Repeat this process for additional lights.

Step 3: Set the DMX Address

• Set all lights to DMX address D001 to control them together.
• Use your DMX controller to control brightness, color, strobe, and effects.
