Introduction
This guide explains how to use the Master/Slave function on your Rockville Flip Par lights to control multiple lights at once without a DMX controller. It follows the process shown in the video and is written in simple, step-by-step language, even if you have no lighting experience.
Requirements:
✅Rockville Mini IR4 (available in black or white)
✅*Included IR Remote (optional)
✅**3-Pin DMX Cable(s) (for wired or 26+ light setup)
*For simultaneous remote control of the Master and Slave light(s).
**One required for each Flip PAR Slave light being connected using wired configuration.
Master/Slave Setup
Part 1: Master/Slave Setup Using DMX Cables
In this method, one light acts as the “Master” and the others follow it as “Slaves.” You will control only the Master; all Slave lights will copy its color and mode.
-
Select one Flip PAR to be Master.
- This light will control all slave lights connected.
- It is recommended to use the light that will be easiest to control; either by accessing the buttons / display, or using the IR remote (pointed at Master light).
-
Activate the light's Master Mode setting.
- Press the Menu button until you see MASTER on or MASTER oFF.
- If you see MASTER oFF, use the Up or Down button to select MASTER on.
- Press the Menu button until you see MASTER on or MASTER oFF.
-
Connect via DMX cables.
- Take a DMX cable.
- On the Master light:
- Plug the male end of the cable into the DMX OUT jack.
- On the first Slave light:
- Plug the female end of the same cable into the DMX IN jack.
- To add more Slave lights:
- Take another DMX cable.
- Plug its male end into the DMX OUT of the previous Slave light.
- Plug the female end into the DMX IN of the next light.
- Repeat for all remaining lights.
- This should create a DMX cable chain:
- Master → Slave 1 → Slave 2 → Slave 3…
-
Configure all Slave Lights.
- Deactivate the Master Mode setting on the rest of the lights:
- Press the Menu button until you see MASTER on or MASTER oFF.
- If you see MASTER on, use the Up or Down button select MASTER oFF.
- Press the Menu button until you see MASTER on or MASTER oFF.
- Make sure IR Remote response is not Active (if controlling Master w/ remote).
This avoids interference or desynchronization if you accidentally point the remote at a Slave Light.- Press the Menu button until you see IR on or IR oFF.
- If you see IR on, use the Up or Down button select IR oFF.
- Press the Menu button until you see IR on or IR oFF.
- Deactivate the Master Mode setting on the rest of the lights:
-
Control from the Master
- Whatever you set on the Master will be copied by all Slave lights in the chain.
- You can adjust colors, modes, brightness and effects using the Master Light’s buttons or the included remote.
-
Using the Remote...
- The remote offers convenient handheld control with the same functions as the onboard buttons.
- You can easily change colors, switch auto modes, adjust brightness, and activate effects.
- Make sure IR response is only active on your Master light (as shown above) to ensure Slave lights don't get accidentally thrown out of sync.
- The Rockville PAR-Control App on a smartphone or tablet can also be used with Master/Slave mode. (more info in App Control section below)
Part 2: Wireless Master/Slave Setup (No Cables)
This method uses the built-in wireless DMX in the Flip Pars. You still have one Master and the rest Slaves, but there are no physical DMX cables between lights.
-
Select one Flip PAR to be Master.
- This light will control all slave lights in the system.
- It is recommended to use the light that will be easiest to control; either by accessing the buttons / display, or using the IR remote (pointed at the top of the light).
-
Activate the light's Master Mode setting.
- Press the Menu button until you see MASTER on or MASTER oFF.
- If you see MASTER oFF, use the Up or Down button to select MASTER on.
- Press the Menu button until you see MASTER on or MASTER oFF.
-
Deactivate the Master Mode setting on all other lights.
- Press the Menu button until you see MASTER on or MASTER oFF.
- If you see MASTER on, use the Up or Down button select MASTER oFF.
- Press the Menu button until you see MASTER on or MASTER oFF.
-
Set all Lights to the Same Wireless Group ID.
- Press the Menu button until you see 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06, 07 or oFF with the corresponding Wireless Group ID color.
- Use the Up / Down buttons to select from 7 available IDs, each with a color code:
-
01 → Red
-
02 → Green
-
03 → Yellow
-
04 → Blue

-
Set all Slave Lights to DMX Address: 001.
- Press the Menu button until you see DMX ADD 001 ~ DMX ADD 512.
- If necessary, use the UP / DOWN buttons to set the address to 001.
- Press the Menu button until you see DMX ADD 001 ~ DMX ADD 512.
-
Set the Master Light's IR Remote response to Active (if using IR remote).
- Press the Menu button until you see IR on or IR oFF.
- If you see IR oFF, use the Up or Down button select IR on.
- This allows you to control all lights using a remote pointed at the Master light (IR sensor on top near display)
- Press the Menu button until you see IR on or IR oFF.
-
Make sure IR Remote response is not Active on all Slave Lights (if controlling Master w/ remote).
This avoids interference or desynchronization if you accidentally point the remote at a Slave Light.- Press the Menu button until you see IR on or IR oFF.
- If you see IR on, use the Up or Down button select IR oFF.

- The Slave Lights’ Wireless Group ID Icon will flash, indicating they are synced with the Master Light.
- If the lights do not sync immediately:
- Turn all lights off.
- Turn them all back on.
- You’ll know they are synced when:
- On the Slave lights: the wireless group icon flashes.
- On the Master light: the wireless group icon is solid.
-
Controlling the Lights...
- Any changes made on the Master Light will be mirrored on all Slave Lights.
- You can adjust colors, modes, brightness and effects using the Master Light’s buttons or the included remote.

Troubleshooting & FAQs
My Slave lights are not following the Master.
✅Make sure Master = ON on the correct light, and Master = OFF on all others.
✅Confirm all Slaves are on the same DMX address (for example, 001).
✅Try power cycling all lights (turn off, then on).
**For wireless setups:
✅Confirm all lights are on the same wireless group ID.
✅Make sure the Master’s wireless group icon is solid and the Slave icons are flashing.
How many Slave lights can I control with one Primary?
✅Up to 25 Slave lights can be wirelessly linked to a single Primary.
Can I mix wired and wireless Master/Slave at the same time?
✅Yes. It is possible for the lights to be chained from wireless to wired, or vice versa.
✅You would just need do one setup first; either wireless or wired, and then the other.
***Example A: 25 lights connected via wireless Master/Slave setup. Additional Slaves wired.
***Example B: 10 lights connected using 9 DMX cables. 5 additional lights connected wirelessly.
✅All additional lights would be connected as Slaves.
✅There should be only one Master light.
The remote is changing some lights but not all.
✅IR Mode should be ON only on the Master light.
✅IR Mode should be OFF on all Slave lights.
✅Make sure all Slave lights are set to DMX Address: 001.
Do the DMX addresses on the Master and Slaves have to match?
✅Slave lights must share the same DMX address.
✅The Master's DMX address does not matter as it should be set to another mode (not DMX).
✅The Master is mainly defined by Master mode = ON.
Conclusion
Using Master/Slave mode with your Rockville Flip Pars allows you to control multiple lights simultaneously without the need for a separate DMX controller. You can connect the fixtures in a simple DMX cable chain, with one unit designated as the Master to control all the Slave lights. Alternatively, you can take advantage of the built-in wireless system to synchronize the lights without running any cables. Once configured, the entire lighting setup can be managed directly from the Master fixture using the included IR remote.
